Is this girl a waste of time or not?

Okay, it is this girl in my class that I really like and i don't know if this would be a good move for me to ask her out or not. My friends tell me that she is a gold digger and a whore. When i see her she is surrounded by a lot of the 11th and 12th grade guys, sometimes some freshman. But we have a little chemistry like we talk and laugh from time to time (twice a week). Sometimes i catch her staring at me then i stare back and we lock eyes for a couple of seconds. Sometimes she tries single me out and talk to everyone i'm around and leave me out. But we only have one class together and i never get the time i want with her nd other guys always trying to impress her and talk to her. Just wanna to know if it would be a good move to ask her out on a date?
